Wow. I’m not going to lie. May was an insane month for me. To my friends and family that I ignored all month, hi, I’m still alive. I did so many things in May that my head is still spinning.
First and biggest thing was the decision to change the reading order of my Camilla Crim series. I go into more detail about that in this blog post, so I’ll try not to be repetitive. But basically, I decided to shift my first book, The Faintly Beating Heart, to be the prequel to the series. Which made the second book, The Sacrifice of One, book one of the series. Make sense?
This sounds simple enough, but it was waaaaaaayyyyyy more work than I could have imagined. I spent the whole month of May refreshing my manuscripts to reflect the change. Then I had to reach out to my designer to have the covers updated, then I had to re-upload all of my books to Amazon. So, all of that, honestly not too bad. BUT, then I realized I had to do all of that to my print books as well. It was at that point that I started questioning everything, because print book formatting is a whole other beast that I won’t bore you with…
With these changes, it also meant updating my website which I had just finished a couple months ago… And then I had to go back through to all of my social media platforms and adjust any mention of The Faintly Beating Heart being book one.
It got VERY tedious and VERY tiring. By evening my eyes were glazed over. Now I’m in the process of getting The Sacrifice of One published on Barnes and Noble, Apple Books, Kobo, and Google in preparation for the re-launch on June 20th. So far, so good. I’m hoping I don’t fall down any admin holes like I did with all the rebranding.
Another big thing I did this month was start for the very first time in my writing career, a Street Team! This is something I’ve been wanting to do for so long but ya know… time… A Street Team is also known as a launch team. It’s sort of an exclusive group of people that helps an author launch their book. They read advanced copies of a book before its published and build hype about the book by leaving reviews and posting about it on social media.
Street Teams are CRITICAL to a book’s success and I should have been doing it years ago. When I posted about it on Facebook and through email, I got some awesome response from you guys, my readers, and I now have a solid team of 24 people. I’d love to continue growing the team so if you’re interested, feel free to apply here >>> http://eepurl.com/g4r6Qr
On a lighter note, I celebrated my 1 year wedding anniversary in May! <3 Since pretty much everything was still on lock down, we went on a nice long hike and made an AMAZING breakfast at home. (breakfast is kind of our thing 😉
I also discovered the show, Married at First Sight. Basically these people get matched up with a stranger by a team of “experts”, and they only meet their future spouse on their wedding day. Yikes, people, seriously. If you haven’t watched it, go check it out if for no other reason than the shock value. My personal opinion? I think these marriages are a farce, but hey, it draws in the viewers. This was my face while watching Married at First sight…
I’m so pumped about the next couple of weeks. I’ll be gearing up (with my Street Team) for the re-launch of The Sacrifice of One of June 20th. Stick around, I’m gonna have some fun launch stuff going on! Also, drop a comment below, let me know what you think about the changes I made to my series, and if you’ve ever watched Married at First Sight!
