Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Here in the US we have Thanksgiving coming up later this month. I just hosted a Friendsgiving at my house which was a lot of fun. Check out my beautiful bird below.

Despite Thanksgiving (and even Christmas) being a big part of November, truth is, it’s not top of mind for me. That’s because November is also National Novel Writing Month, or Nanowrimo. I’ve talked about Nanowrimo a lot but in case you don’t know what it is, it’s a writing challenge where authors attempt to write 50,000 words in the month of November.

It’s a lot! But it’s great for developing a daily writing habit. In fact, if there are any writer’s reading this, I highly recommend participating in Nanowrimo. You can also request to be my buddy! (my username is efortney)

Nanowrimo is very close to my heart because it’s how I got my start with writing. I couldn’t even tell you how I stumbled upon their website, but I know it was late October. I signed up and basically the next day just started writing!

Those early Nanowrimo writings later became book #1 in the Camilla Crim series, The Sacrifice of One. (btw: as a member of my rebellion, you can to read this book for FREE by clicking HERE)

I’ve been participating in Nanowrimo for 11 years! Last year was a bit of a flop for me. I only got a few thousand words in before I got derailed but as of the writing of this email, I’m at 21,684 words, woot woot! If you’ve been following me on social media then you’ll have see me cutting off links from my word count chain which you can check out below.

So, what exactly makes up these 21,000 words I’ve written so far? I’m presently working on the latest draft of book #4 in the Camilla Crim series, The Crimson Witch. I’ve been working on this book for a couple of years now, but I’m really pleased with how this draft is coming along.

I’ve spent the last few months working on an exhaustive outline for this book. I don’t typically write this way. Usually I just kind of wing it and figure out the story as I go, but I’ve found that the deeper I get into the series the less I’m able to do that.

There are far too many plot twists in Camilla’s world that I just can’t wing it anymore. This is the first time I’ve created this detailed of an outline and so far, it’s been very beneficial. I know where I’m headed and that makes the words flow better.

Welp, I’m almost halfway through Nanowrimo. I’m feeling good. I’m feeling strong. I highly encourage you to follow me on all the social medias to stay up to date on my Nano journey!

The Crimson Witch will definitely be longer than 50,000 words so once November is over, I’m going to have to continue with the writing challenge on my own until the draft is complete. I will keep you up to date on that!

Let’s talk Christmas really quick. 🎄 This year, I decided to bring back my Christmas book bundles for sale! So, if you’re looking for some gift ideas, listen up. I personally LOVE receiving a book as a gift. It’s like placing a whole world of adventure in someone’s hands. What is better than that??

📕 Each bundle includes a paperback copy of all currently published books in the Camilla Crim series:

Prequel: The Faintly Beating Heart

Book #1: The Sacrifice of One

Book #2: The Bear Gap Rebels

Book #3: The Dark Ruler

I’ve wrapped each book bundle in a variety of vintage ribbons, many of them Christmas themed. And, the thing I’m most proud of: each book bundle even has a Christmas tag included. 😀 So, it’s ready for gift giving out of the box.

They’re going for $45 a bundle plus shipping. Let me tell you, this is a STEAL. If you bought these books individually off of Amazon they’d come in at $66 for all 4 books. And those ones wouldn’t include the ribbon and gift tags.

If you’re interested in grabbing one of these Christmas book bundles to give away as a gift orrrrrr maybe just keep them for yourself… email me at emily@emilyfortney.com. I do only have a limited number of bundles in stock so act fast!

When you email me, please provide your full name and shipping address. I will calculate shipping for you and let you know how much it will cost and then have it delivered right to your doorstep. I’m taking payment via PayPal only.

And just to spread the Christmas cheer a little further, I’ll happily sign one of the books if you’d like! Cross one more thing off your Christmas to-do list.

I’ll be back in December with my usual author update! Wish me luck on the remainder of Nanowrimo!
