It’s 2024. Let me put that in perspective for you. Since we all now measure time in relation to the breakout of COVID-19, that means we are almost 4 years from the start of COVID. Someone told me that the other day and I almost couldn’t believe it. But like wasn’t 2021 just last year??

Every year I do a “year in review” in my own personal journal where I just make bullet points of the most notable things that happened in my life that year. I pulled that page up a few days ago and realized I hadn’t updated it since 2020!!!

Time has def been a bit soupy for me the last few years…

What I’m about to say is a little cliché, I’ll admit, but I still love doing it. I want to take this post to reflect on 2023 with you and also share my goals for 2024. I’m not going to use those 3 dirty words: New Year’s Resolutions. But I am going to say goals. I’ve always been a goal setter and although I don’t feel like there’s any need to wait until the start of a new year to set goals, I can’t just brush off that, new year, new me feeling!

So, let’s talk 2023. As you all are keenly aware, the last 2 years have been difficult writing years for me. With all of the change in my life, I really struggled to even write 200 words in a sitting. But I feel that I’ve now broken that curse. In 2023 I participated in Nanowrimo and wrote over 50,000 words toward my next draft of The Crimson Witch. Wahoo! This is probably one of my top accomplishments for the year. I’m super proud of myself and feeling positive about this book.

I also used a word count tracker that I have always wanted to try: my colorful word count chain! This has been super fun and I’m excited to chop off every ring this year.

I did a bit of traveling in 2023. Now that I live in Tennessee, I took a couple of day trips to Missouri and Tupelo, MS. Tupelo might sound like a random destination, but it’s the birthplace of Elvis Presley (in case you didn’t know!).

But the coolest place I went was by far the Grand Canyon. I want to say that this place is underrated but I don’t think it actually is. I think it was just underrated for ME. Like I’ve heard about the Grand Canyon so much that it just became blasé in my mind.

I could not have been more wrong. The Grand Canyon is absolutely incredible and everyone should go. I got to kayak the Colorado River at Horseshoe Bend- SPEECHLESS. It was so amazing and def a highlight of my year.

So, what about 2024? I have a few, simple goals for 2024, emphasis on simple. I have some other personal goals in my life for this year that will pull some time away from my writing so I want to keep my goals realistic.

  1. First off, I want to finish writing The Crimson Witch. Yes, this has been my goal for a solid 2 years now, but good things take time!
  2. Second: get the Camilla Crim series in hardback and audiobook format. I’ve been wanting to get my books in audio for some time now but doing that can involve some $$$. I’m hoping this year, I’ll have the funds to finally get the ball rolling on audiobooks.
  3. Lastly, I want to focus on a consistent social media presence with my readers. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I tend to disappear from social media for big chunks of time. I totally support anyone who does that, because sometimes we just need a break from the noise. But my goal is to be more consistent this year.

BTW you should make sure you’re following me on my social medias so that you can keep me accountable.

That’s all folks. I believe in small changes and small goals. Although these goals will still be pretty challenging for me haha! Let me know if you have any big goals or hopes for the year. Thank you for being the awesome reader that you are. I look forward to having you as a member of my rebellion in 2024.

Emily
