If you don’t know what Nano is then stick around and I’ll explain at the end of this post. 🙂 First I wanted to give you a real, official, certified book update on The Crimson Witch. I’ve been lamenting to my Street Team a little bit lately about how the progress has been slow. I’ve been trying to be… not so negative about my progress on The Crimson Witch, but the truth is it has been a slow go. This has been a big year of changes for me so I’ve had to shift my focus at times.

But enough of the negative. Although my writing has not been as swift as I had hoped, the story is still coming along. Today I wanted to introduce you to a couple of characters that you’ll be running in to when you read The Crimson Witch. In this book, Camilla is thrust into a whole new world, with a whole bunch of new people that she doesn’t know. So, I thought I’d introduce them to you:

Portia~

Okay, Portia is not a new character. So I’m already kind of a liar… She’s not new, but we do get a whole new view of her in this book. As you know, Portia is Camilla’s mother, her absent mother to be precise. In the four Camilla books so far, Portia has always lurked in the shadows and only shown up for a few moments at a time. And anytime she’s shown up, it’s usually brought destruction.

In The Crimson Witch, Camilla gets up close and personal with her mother. They travel together over rough roads and are forced to survive together. At the beginning of the book, Camilla notices a physical weakness in Portia that she’s never seen before. She also experiences Portia’s incredible powers and vindictive nature. Portia plays it cool in The Crimson Witch, but trust me when I tell you, she’s in control. You’ll get to see a whole new side of this mysterious character!

Collette~

My astute readers are shouting- “Collette’s not a new character either!”  Well, technically not. Collette is mentioned briefly in The Bear Gap Rebels. She’s an old friend of Portia’s from back when Portia first learned she was pregnant with Camilla. The two were initially enemies. How could they not be? Collette had just learned that Portia was having an affair with her husband. (That’s so like Portia…)

But instead of growing bitter with each other, the two women decided to turn their anger on Roan, Collette’s husband. Since he was the one that had played them both. In the end, they become close friends and are still thicker than thieves in The Crimson Witch. Collette seems unassuming to Camilla when they first meet, but the best friend of Portia has an agenda too.

Tess~

Our final character is a young girl named, Tess. She’s the daughter of Collette and Roan, but seems absolutely nothing like her scheming parents. When Camilla meets Tess, she immediately latches onto her. Camilla sees Tess as innocent, over protected, and trapped in this world where she knows nothing but the influence of Portia. In fact, Camilla sees a little bit of herself in Tess. But Portia does everything she can to keep Tess and Camilla apart. Why? Camilla’s not quite sure, but she’s determined to find out.

Each of these characters will play a key role in the plot of The Crimson Witch. I’m really getting excited to share this book with you and to formally introduce you to the players. Until then, this teaser will have to do! Now, I promised that I’d explain Nano to you and I am a woman who keeps my promises…

It’s November which means it’s Nanowrimo, otherwise known as National Novel Writing Month! What happens in November is writers from all over the world challenge themselves to write 50,000 words in one month. (50,000 words is roughly the length of a novel) In case you don’t know, Nano is how I got started writing my very first Camilla book. So, it’s near and dear to my heart and I try to participate every year.

Since I’m in the middle of writing The Crimson Witch, I’m using Nano to continue to get words on the page for this book. I’ve been posting Nano updates over on social media to keep myself accountable so if you’re not following me yet- pick your favorite platform below and give me follow, will ya?

I hope you enjoyed meeting some of cast of The Crimson Witch! To get fully pumped for the launch of this book, make sure you go binge on the other books in the Camilla series and remember that the first book is free to my subscribers. Check it out below.
