It was 2012 and I’d just committed myself to direct the largest children’s program sponsored by my church. It’s easy to commit yourself to something when it’s six months away, isn’t it? And that’s about how long it took me to plan Vacation Bible School that year. It’s now June 26th 2015 and I’ve just completed this undertaking for the third time.
You know those times in your life when you have to apologize to your friends and family for being ‘off the grid’ because you’ve been so busy? The last three or four weeks have been that way for me. VBS consumed much of my time during the month of June, but it was totally worth it.
For five days we brought nearly 60 children into our church, taught them a Bible lesson, played games, did crafts, and of course ate snack (the rocket cake was my favorite!). I’m grateful to God for allowing me to play a part in the outreach of these children.
I’m reminded of the verses from Matthew 19:14-15, “But Jesus said, Suffer little children and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.” It’s a reminder to me that working and influencing children is no small or insignificant task. Jesus himself took time out of his short earthly ministry to evangelize children.
Truthfully I have not even looked at The Faintly Beating Heart in four weeks, but I’m okay with that. I believe when God calls us to holy work, we should stop and take head. Choosing to direct this ministry may have pushed back my publication date but I don’t mind and I know you, my readers, won’t mind either.
Back in early June I received The Faintly Beating Heart back from my editor with her second round of edits complete. So my job now is to review those edits and put the final polish on my book. I promise to keep you informed as the edits commence!
